Durst Group to acquire MPS Printing

The move will add MPS’ flexographic press technology to Durst’s digital and hybrid portfolio, with MPS continuing as an independent brand within the Group.

Durst Group has announced plans to acquire MPS Printing, the Netherlands-based manufacturer of flexographic printing presses for the label and flexible packaging markets.

Effective January 1, 2027, MPS will become part of Durst through the acquisition of its holding company and operate as MPS – A Durst Group Company. The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

The acquisition significantly expands Durst’s presence in labels and flexible packaging, adding MPS’ flexographic technology and engineering expertise to a portfolio that already encompasses digital printing, software and automation, as well as hybrid production through Durst’s partnership with Omet.

“Label production is becoming increasingly connected, automated and data-driven,” says Christoph Gamper, CEO and co-owner of Durst Group. “Durst already has strong capabilities in digital printing, software and hybrid production. With MPS, we are adding further flexographic expertise, technology and engineering capabilities to the Group.”

According to Durst, combining the technologies will provide additional development and integration options spanning digital and flexographic printing, software, automation and finishing. The company says the expanded platform will also allow it to address a broader range of applications, run lengths and production requirements.

MPS will retain its brand and continue developing, manufacturing and marketing its existing portfolio of flexographic printing systems. Its management team will also remain in place, with current CEO Michiel Borst becoming managing director of MPS – A Durst Group Company.

“What changes is not who we are, but what we will be able to achieve,” says Borst. “MPS will retain its entrepreneurial approach, its customer focus and its commitment to flexographic innovation.”

MPS’ existing direct sales channels will remain in place in Europe. In the United States, Durst US will assume responsibility for sales and service of the MPS portfolio. MPS will also gain access to Durst’s international service and spare-parts infrastructure.

Durst emphasized that its existing partnership with OMET will continue independently of the MPS acquisition. Durst and OMET currently develop and market the KJet and XJet hybrid platforms, combining flexographic and digital printing with inline finishing.

“Our partnership with Omet remains strategically important and continues,” Gamper says. “At the same time, the label market is highly diverse and there is no single production concept that meets every requirement.”

MPS is headquartered in Arnhem, the Netherlands, and manufactures flexographic printing systems for label and flexible packaging production. Durst is headquartered in Brixen, Italy, and employs more than 1,150 people across more than 30 companies worldwide.
